History

The Golden Retriever is a relatively young breed. It originated in Scotland during the late of 1800s. Lord Tweedmouth, British aristocrat, was developing them. In that time, hunting was became famous sport. Tweedmouth and other British lords looked for developing hunting dogs for upland game. But the due to the original breeders were gentleman, they demanded more than just practically in their dogs. Then they sought to create handsome dogs who were a pleasure to watch owrk. And it became the golden retriever, breed with both hunting skill and beauty.

In the nineteenth century, there was a quest among the British gentry for the perfect hunting dog. Most of the retrievers and many other hunting dogs have their roots in these early efforts. They wanted to attempt this goal by acquiring and breeding good hunting dogs, using outcrosses to other breeds to bring in other qualities. Some were succeed but some were failed. The exact origin of several retrievers is unclear as the secretive methods used at the time.

The golden retriever was filled in the role since the improvement in firearm during the 1800s. During hunts at greater distances and over increasingly terrain, more birds being lost in the field. And because of that, they need for a speciallist retriever, arose as training setter and pointer breeds in retrieval was found to be ineffective.

The golden retriever was official achieved by The Kennel Club (England) in 1903. The golden crossed to America by way of Canada, prior to the First World War. Golden became famous in American hunters for very short while due to their beauty and hunting skill. They have strength, intelligence and retrieving talents as well. In the waterways of America there was a superabundance of feathered game. The golden's used in this environment made it a valuable asset. The need for retrievers was dropped for a while after the droughts ended. Droughts in the 1930's decimated the flocks that once migrated through these regions. Then the marhes eventually did refill and the wild fowl did return, but they were far fewer in number and combine that with stringent hunting regulations. It was until the 1950s and it began to increase once again.

Golden retriever is still very popular nowadays. They are being shown in conformation, obedience trials, taking part in agility trials and demonstrating their ability in tracking, field and hunt trials. Golden retrievers are also being utilized in narcotics and arson detection, search and rescue operations and in law enforcement. They also make great assistance dogs for the people who are physically challenged. Goldens are now engaged as therapy dogs, serve a guide for the visually impaired, as hearing dogs for hearing impaired.
